In-Home Dementia & Alzheimer’s Care in Indianapolis

Patient, consistent support that helps people living with memory loss stay safe and engaged at home, and gives families room to breathe.

Can people with dementia receive care at home?

Yes. Many people living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia can stay at home with the right support. That includes consistent routines, supervision, help with personal care and meaningful activity. APSA provides non-medical, in-home dementia care in Indianapolis and Central Indiana, from a few hours a week to 24-hour care.

How In-Home Dementia Care Helps

  • Routine and familiarity: a consistent caregiver and predictable daily rhythm can ease confusion and anxiety
  • Safety and supervision: watching for wandering, fall risks and unsafe situations at home
  • Personal care with dignity: patient help with bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting
  • Engagement: conversation, music, walks, simple tasks and activities the person enjoys
  • Meals and hydration: preparing meals and gently encouraging eating and drinking
  • Respite for family: time for spouses and adult children to rest and recharge

Non-medical care: APSA is an IDH-licensed Personal Services Agency that provides non-medical, in-home support. Our caregivers do not provide skilled nursing or medical treatment, such as wound care, injections or administering medication. If your loved one needs medical care at home, we can work alongside the home health or hospice provider their physician arranges.

Signs It May Be Time for Help at Home

  • Missed meals, weight loss or spoiled food in the refrigerator
  • Getting lost, wandering or leaving appliances on
  • Increased agitation in late afternoon or evening
  • Declining hygiene or wearing the same clothes repeatedly
  • A family caregiver who is exhausted or can’t keep up

If you’re noticing new or worsening symptoms, talk with your loved one’s physician. When you’re ready to talk about support at home, APSA can help.
